Gallery
Docents:
Docents may conduct guided tours of exhibitions, facilitate film
interpretations, present lecture format talks or assist viewers in looking at and thinking about
art. Docents should enjoy learning and sharing ideas, be able to
make a commitment to the training and preparation for tours, and
enjoy meeting people. It is important that docents are receptive
to the needs of others and hold non-judgmental views about art.
Gallery
Shop
The Gallery Shop sells handcrafted items made by local artists.
Volunteers support the Gallery as sales and cashier persons.
Some sales experience is preferred but the Gallery will train
volunteers.
Administration
From time to time, the Centre administration staff (Development,
Public Relations, Curatorial & Collections, and Accounting departments) require extra help with
filing, photocopying, stuffing envelopes, etc. Administration
volunteers are on an on-call basis. Previous office experience
is preferred but not essential.
Gardening
Volunteers are asked to help maintain the grounds of the Centre.
Volunteers should have some previous gardening experience
although this is not essential.
Poster
Campaigns
Throughout the year, we have posters produced to advertise
exhibitions. We need enthusiastic people, especially in preparation for special exhibitions, to help
distribute the posters. This position involves some walking and
a whole lot of spreading the good word. Poster distributors
should be friendly and be prepared to show their excitement about the Art Gallery and its upcoming programs and exhibitions.
Training will be provided.
Hospitality
& Special Events
The Centre hosts many special events during the year including
opening receptions, fundraising events, etc. Positions in
hospitality involve greeting (information providers,)
set-up/take down, coat check, manning of membership tables, etc.
